*COMPLETE THE SENTENCE*

Follow the instructions below to create three different sentences from the following clause:*

... Many people have set up Halloween displays in their yards ...

Sentence 1. Add a phrase      
Sentence 2. Add a dependent clause
Sentence 3. Add an independent clause


*Add your words to the beginning or end of the clause (but not both) and do not use a semi-colon to join your independent clause.

1. My neighborhood has gone haywire and many people have set up Halloween displays in their yards.
2. Many people have set up Halloween displays in their yards, because Halloween is this Friday.
3. Many people have set up Halloween displays in their yards, but this year's decorations are lacking in diversity.

Good try, everyone. But I see a number of problems.

Henry, your first sentence adds an independent clause, not a phrase. Also, you do not need a comma in front of "because".

Janet, your third sentence adds a dependent clause, not an independent one.

Arzoo, your second sentence adds an infinitive phrase, not a dependent clause. Also, you were instructed not to use a semi-colon in this exercise.

Rajwah, you seem to have followed Arzoo's lead in using an infinitive phrase rather than a dependent clause in your second sentence.
