ACTIVE & PASSIVE, May 16th, 2013

Use the verb with the base form of bear in two different sentences.

Sentence 1 should be in the active voice.
Sentence 2 should reword the sentence to the passive voice.

Active voice:

The young boy had to bear the weight of the whole family.

Passive voice:

The weight of the whole had to be born by the young boy.

^ I meant to put "family" after "whole" one the passive voice sentence.

Passive Voice

John came bearing gifts.

Active voice

The gifts were borne by John.

The Bear is eating our food.

They look just like those bears that got into the cooler last week.

The weight of the whole family had to be borne by the young boy.

1. The ancient apple tree could no longer bear fruit.

2. Fruit could no longer be borne by the ancient apple tree.

Our goalie bear the brunt of the opposing team's slap shots.

2. Passive
The opposing team's slap shots were born primarily by our goalie.

David bear the weight of his siblings` school fees.

Passive voice:
The weight of David`s siblings school fees was born by him.

I can no longer bear the embarrassment of my poor English language skills.

Passive:
Poor English language skills have been borne by me for a very long time.

SHADE: You have the right idea, but int he active voice, the tense is either wrong or doesn't agree with the subject; in the passive voice, the a spelling error in the verb;-)
