Sentence 1:
With all the holiday spirit in the air, I'm looking forward to the New year.

Sentence 2:
I'm looking forward to the New Year because I'm going back to Canada.

Sentence 3:
I'm looking forward to the New Year but I'm not looking forward to the cold weather.

2.I'm looking forward to the New Year and all the celebrations.
3.I'm looking forward to the New Year; although, I can not believe the last year has passed so quickly.

Well done, Eugenie; but I would add a comma before the conjunction in your third sentence.

Sarah, your second sentence does not have a subordinate clause and the your third does not have an independent one.
