*ACTIVE vs. PASSIVE*

Write two sentences using the word throw.

In the first sentence, use the word in the active voice; in the second sentence, use it in the passive voice.

Passive voice: The ball was thrown by Melody to Brian.

Active voice: The difficult situation at work threw me off the rail.

Passive voice: I was thrown off the rail by the difficult situation at work.

Passive: My friend caught the ball that was thrown at him.

Passive: Yesterday, rocks were thrown to the lake by us.

Good job, everyone. But try to remember, as a point of style, that when you use the passive voice, it is often better not to mention the grammatical subject.

That is, you can say "The trash was thrown out." But it is a little awkward to say "The trash was thrown out by us."

Jefferson, your second sentence is not in the passive voice.
