Right now, I am waiting outside for my friend to arrive so we could go to the park together, as the clouds suddenly gather together and the rain starts coming down.

Yesterday, I waited outside for my friend to arrive, so we would go to the park together, when the clouds immediately gathered and the rain started to come down.

Present.

Today, I wait outside for my friend to arrive so we can go to the park together, but the clouds gather and the rain starts to come down.

Good try, everyone!

But, Aliocha, watch out the comma splice.

Eugenie, even if you change the main clause to the past perfect, I would still use the simple past to describe the clouds and rain: "Last month, I had been waiting outside for my friend to arrive so we could go to the park together, when the clouds suddenly gathered and the rain started coming down."
