ACTIVE & PASSIVE, Jan. 18th, 2013
Use the verb with the base form of consume in two different sentences. Sentence 1 should be in the
active voice; sentence 2 should reword the sentence to the passive voice.

My homework will consume me for the rest of the evening.
#2 Passive voice Consuming me for the rest of the evening was my homework.
ALESHA:#1--good; #2--this is not the passive voice;-) SARAH:Well done! SERENA:The active voice is good, but the second sentence uses "consume" as a participial adjective. This is not a passive form;-) BEATRICE: good!

The children consume the birthday cake.
2. Passive Voice
The birthday cake was consumed by the children.
1. I consumed a salad for lunch and a plate of pasta for dinner.
2. I felt consumed by my large workload at first, but once I wrote out a priority list, things looked much better.
I was consumed by my feelings of depression.
My feelings of depression consumed me.
